Selank — Tuftsin-Derived Anxiolytic Heptapeptide with Immunomodulatory Activity

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences alongside Semax, designed as a stable analogue of the endogenous immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg). The parent molecule, tuftsin, is a fragment of the IgG heavy chain that stimulates phagocyte activity and innate immune function. Selank extends tuftsin with a C-terminal Gly-Glu-Pro sequence, which dramatically increases metabolic stability — the native tuftsin half-life is minutes; Selank’s is measured in hours — and shifts the pharmacological profile toward CNS activity. Selank was registered as a pharmaceutical in Russia for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder and neurasthenia and is listed in the Russian State Pharmacopoeia. Selank arrives as lyophilized powder and must be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water prior to use. Use the formula:
