GHRP-6 - Ghrelin-Receptor Agonist Secretagogue Research Peptide

GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide developed by Bowers and colleagues as the first-generation growth hormone-releasing peptide, predating GHRP-2 and ipamorelin. It binds the GHSR-1a receptor (the ghrelin receptor) in the anterior pituitary and hypothalamus, producing a pulsatile GH release alongside a characteristic appetite-axis signal. GHRP-6 is the reference compound for studying the ghrelin-mimetic class as a whole - its hunger-pathway signature is why it sits at one end of the secretagogue spectrum, with ipamorelin at the other.

Why GHRP-6’s Appetite-Pathway Signature Matters

All three main research GHRPs (GHRP-6, GHRP-2, ipamorelin) agonize the same GHSR-1a receptor and all three release GH. The difference is the magnitude of the secondary signal on the appetite axis (NPY, AgRP). GHRP-6 produces the strongest appetite-axis signal of the three and the broadest GH pulse. In research, that profile is used when the study question asks about combined GH + hunger-axis signaling; it is avoided when the goal is to isolate a clean GH pulse without secondary feeding-behavior effects.

Percorso In parole povere, ecco cosa fa
GHSR-1a (ghrelin receptor) Agonized - triggers pulsatile GH release
Appetite-axis (NPY/AgRP) Strong stimulation - pronounced hunger signal in published work
IGF-1 Downstream rise from repeated GH pulses
Cortisol / prolactin Mild elevation at higher doses

GHRP-6 vs GHRP-2

GHRP-6 and GHRP-2 are the two first-generation GHRPs and are compared constantly in the published literature. They share the same receptor but differ in pulse shape and hunger-axis effect.

Composto GH-release profile Appetite effect
GHRP-6 Strong, broader pulse Pronounced
GHRP-2 Strong, sharper pulse Moderato
Ipamorelin Cleaner, selective pulse Minimale

Applicazioni di ricerca

GHRP-6 is used in studies examining:

  • GH pulsatility and secretagogue-induced pulse amplitude
  • Combined GH + appetite-axis signaling research
  • IGF-1 downstream response to repeated GHRP administration
  • Comparative ghrelin-mimetic studies (GHRP-6 vs GHRP-2 vs ipamorelin)
  • Paired GHRH + GHRP protocols (with CJC-1295 / sermorelin / tesamorelin)
  • Ghrelin-receptor and hunger-signaling pathway research

Unopened vials are kept at 2-8°C under standard cold-chain conditions and remain stable for 12+ months. Reconstitution parameters, solvent compatibility, and post-reconstitution stability for GHRP-6 are documented in the published peer-reviewed literature and standard peptide-chemistry references.

Reference Literature

Published clinical and preclinical GHRP-6 literature is available through PubMed, Google Scholar, and other peer-reviewed databases. WWP does not provide protocol design, dosing guidance, or administration parameters. Those decisions rest with the researcher and any applicable institutional review board.

Common Questions About GHRP-6 Research

What is GHRP-6 used for in research?

It is studied as a ghrelin-receptor agonist for combined GH-release and appetite-axis endpoints. Its pronounced hunger-pathway signal makes it the reference compound for research questions that track both GH and NPY/AgRP together. Comparative studies against GHRP-2 and ipamorelin are common.

What is the difference between GHRP-6 and GHRP-2?

Both agonize the same GHSR-1a receptor and both trigger GH release. GHRP-6 produces a broader GH pulse and a pronounced hunger-axis signal. GHRP-2 produces a sharper GH pulse with a more moderate appetite effect. Research protocols select between them based on whether the hunger-axis signal is desired or an unwanted confound.

Does GHRP-6 cause hunger in research models?

Yes. The pronounced appetite-axis (NPY, AgRP) signal is a well-documented feature of GHRP-6 in published rodent and human study data. This signature is specifically what distinguishes it from ipamorelin, which was developed to dissociate the GH pulse from the hunger pathway.

Is GHRP-6 FDA approved?

No. GHRP-6 is not FDA approved for any use. It is a research compound only and is also prohibited under the WADA Prohibited List (S2). Every vial WWP ships is labeled and sold strictly for laboratory and research use only.

How is GHRP-6 stored?
