Bacteriostatic Water — Sterile Reconstitution Vehicle for Lyophilized Peptides
Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water) is sterile water for injection preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. The benzyl alcohol concentration is calibrated to inhibit bacterial growth in the reconstituted solution without affecting the peptide or compound it carries. Plain sterile water for injection provides no such protection — once a vial is punctured, microbial contamination risk begins immediately. Benzyl alcohol-preserved bacteriostatic water extends the safe usable window of a reconstituted peptide solution to approximately 28–30 days when stored at 2–8°C, making it the standard reconstitution vehicle for lyophilized research peptides across the field. Vials are multi-dose: the rubber septum is designed for repeated needle insertion without compromising sterility.

Role as a Reconstitution Vehicle
Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides must be dissolved in an aqueous vehicle before use. Bacteriostatic water is the standard choice for this purpose in peptide research for two reasons: it is sterile, eliminating endotoxin and particulate contamination risk, and the 0.9% benzyl alcohol preservative suppresses bacterial growth across repeated needle punctures of the same vial. Once a peptide is reconstituted in BAC water and stored at 2–8°C, the solution typically remains stable for 28–30 days — far longer than solutions prepared with plain sterile water, which offer no microbial growth suppression after the first puncture. The appropriate volume of BAC water to add depends on the desired working concentration: total peptide mass (mg) divided by volume added (mL) equals concentration (mg/mL). All product pages for WWP peptides include specific reconstitution examples.
